About Bethlehem
Bethlehem Lutheran Church was founded in 1854 by a small group of German immigrants.
In the past century and a half, we have grown from a congregation whose first services were held
in the back of a harness shop to one with a ministry that is rooted in our immediate neighborhood
and branches out through Middletown and into surrounding counties.
When you join the Family of Bethlehem, you will find:
- Sunday messages based in Biblical Scripture
- Sunday School classes for children and adults
- A children’s message during Sunday worship
- Nursery provided
- Sacrament of Communion served the second Sunday of each month
- Catechism instruction and youth activities
- A quilter’s guild and a walker’s group that meet each Wednesday morning
- Women’s circles that meet monthly for bible study
- Visitations to members and shut-ins at home and retirement centers
- A prayer chain
- A 200 seat auditorium with stage
- Participation in the Choice Pantry operation
- Christmas gifts for the international “Samaritan’s Purse Operation Shoebox,”
as well as for area families in need
- American Legion’s “Four Chaplains” service
- Founding partner of MALACHI
- Community outreach opportunities
- PALS – a group of members providing members meals, transportation and support
- A large sanctuary – with its long center aisle – that has proved to be popular with wedding parties
- Endless opportunities to share God’s love through faith and fellowship
Our doors and our hearts are open for everyone who seeks the compassion and the caring that
Christ gives to all people. Come and see what a difference we can make in your life.
